Ted Trevor in the late 60’s designed a method of coupling a V8 Chevrolet engine to a Corvair 4 speed gearbox to create a mid-engine Corvair. This method is still sought after today but has it’s shortfalls. Today’s small block Chevrolet engines, particularly those engines with upgrades like better breathing aluminum heads or a late model LS engine make far more torque than the 70’s era engines. This video will show you how to upgrade this method so that the gearbox can better handle the torque of an upgraded Chevrolet V8 engine.
Many Thanks to Howard Trevor for digging into his Fathers archives and Mike Levine and Chris Shade for their input.
